The crisis of confidence between the Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and the state House of Assembly deepened on Monday as the lawmakers denied being aware of the governor’s planned presentation of 2019 budget proposal.
Journalists who arrived at the state’s Assembly lobby about 2:30pm were approached by one of the Speaker’s aides who asked them to vacate the premises as the Speaker was said not to be in the know of the planned visit of the governor for the presentation.
The budget presentation suffered a hitch last year as Governor Ambode merely sent the proposal to the House without the traditional fanfare associated with the presentation.
This may not be unconnected with the fall out from the gubernatorial primaries which pitted the governor against the favorite and eventually winner, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu.
Also, there have been allegation and counter allegation that Ambode is working for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje.
There is also news making the rounds that the House may be planning to impeach Ambode for having the effrontery to question the judgement of the national leader and former governor of Lagos state , Mr. Bola Tinubu, who has earlier advised Ambode to step down for Sanwoolu.
For now, it’s not certain if Party leaders in the state will wade in to resolve the crisis of confidence between Ambode and the House.
