AA Disowns Gov Akeredolu’s candidate, Dr Tunji Abayomi, supports PDP Candidate

The Ondo State chapter of the Action Alliance on Wednesday insisted that it was not fielding any candidate for the forthcoming general elections.

The party which has declared support for the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidates across the state, may have jettisoned Dr. Tunji Abayomi, an ally of Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who was encouraged by the Governor to contest on the platform of AA after the All Progressives Congress, APC, returned Prof Ajayi Boroffice, senator representing Ondo North.

It will be recalled that Dr. Abayomi won the senatorial primary but the NWC of the APC overturned based on the agreement that all the APC senators should be returned unopposed. But because of the no love lost between Akeredolu and Boroffice, the former encouraged Dr. Abayomi to move to AA.

The state executive of the party said the people who claimed to be candidates of the party for the senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly elections were not recognised by the national leadership of the party.

To this end, the AA directed all its members to support and vote for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party for all the elections on Saturday.

The state executive said its action was based on the directive of the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Kenneth Udeze.

This was contained in a statement issued after the state executive council meeting of the party.

The statement was signed by the state National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the AA, Mr. Joshua Adewole; and the other members of the state executive of the party.

The statement reads in part, “It has become necessary and expedient to bring to public awareness that we the leadership of Action Alliance in Ondo State, after weighing all options, had decided to reject all the claimants of the AA tickets across Ondo State.

“We hereby resolve to throw our support for all the candidates of the PDP across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.

“Our decision is in tandem with the directive of the National Chairman of our party, Barrister Kenneth Udeze, who, on behalf of the National Executive Council of the AA, endorsed the candidacy of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other candidates of the PDP across Nigeria.”

The statement also stated that the AA in Ondo State did not conduct any party primary election and as such, did not field any candidates across the state.

“This position is further attested with the fact that INEC never observed any primary election of AA, as required by law.

“We hereby dissociate ourselves as a political party with integrity which believes in the doctrine of leadership-followership, from all the claimants and purported candidates of our party (AA) in Ondo State, ” the statement added.
