The Chairperson, Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Mrs. Olabisi Adebajo alias Abisco may have lost sum of N4 million to her personal aide Adebayo Akinbola.
The dedendant 31, is facing a charge with stealing. But he pleaded not guilty to it.
Meanwhile ASP Peter Nwangwu, the police prosecutor explained to the court that the LCDA staff committed the offence on February 6 between the hours of 3.30 p.m and 6 p.m at Guaranty Trust Bank, Alimosho, Lagos.
“He was sent on an errand to the bank by the complainant to withdraw N4 million.
“After he withdrew the funds, he absconded and was not seen for an unspecified period of time.
“The matter was reported at the Ikotun Police Station and after series of investigations, he was caught and he claimed to the police that he was abducted by unknown persons.
“The money has, however, not yet been recovered from him,” said Prosecutor Nwangu.
The offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. The Section of the law that recommends a seven-year jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of 850,000 Naira with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Aje-Afunwa said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.
The case was adjourned until May 2 for mention.
