The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday urged the Federal Government not to increase the Value Added Tax.
He said an increase in VAT will reduce the spending capacity of the people and might increase hardship.
Tinubu, who was speaking at the 11th colloquiums to mark his 67 birthday in Abuja urged the Federal Government to rather consider increasing the tax net.
It would be recalled that the chairman of federal inland revenue, Mr. Fowler , has suggested that the VAT must be increased in order to meet up with 30,000 minimum wage approved by the National Assembly.
Tinubu explained that the federal government should embark on programs that will benefit the masses.
He also admonished the federal government not to increase tax .
