The rumour mill was agog last week when the news filtered that London-based celebrity , Akeem Adetoro has been nabbed by the operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for drugs related matter.
Newsnow investigation revealed that Akeem who run a Royal Textile in Liverpool, London, may have opted for a low profile for now , thereby fueling speculation that he has been arrested by The NDLEA.
A source close to Akeem said he is hibernating around Lekki area of Lagos and has nothing to do with the anti-narcotic agency, at least for now.
Akeem, who is controversy personified was caught with drugs in 2008 while traveling from Lagos to London at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
He was apprehended on July 8, 2008, at the Departure hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, during the screening of passengers on Virgin Atlantic flight to London on that fateful Tuesday night.
The accused, Yusuf Hakeem Ajibola Adetoro, was arrested with 2.2 kilogrammes of 19 wraps of cocaine. The suubstance was concealed in his boxer shorts.
Sources disclosed that the street value of the drug was worth N4million back then. Adetoro was eventually arraigned in court where he pleaded guilty.
He was sentenced to eleven months imprisonment with an option of N350,000 fine, which was like a slap on the wrist compared with the gravity of his offense. Akeem was also made to forfeit 1,444 pounds and $1,000 which were found on him and which the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) tendered as exhibits.
