Why Corruption is Prevalent In Nigeria-OGD

….Says People Have Become Poorer Without Hope

Former governor of Ogun state , Otunba Gbenga Daniel has given reasons why corruption is prevalent in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Freedomonline Lecture held recently on the theme: “Fixing the Economy : Less politics, more substance,”Otunba Daniel said we have to restructure because the current system we are running is not working.

His words:” restructuring is very simple. We have been running a system since 1960 and the system is not working. Making the system work is restructuring. We need to appreciate the fundamentals. Our people have become poorer, no hope.

“ For instance if you want your children to have the best education, Atlantic Hall is one of the best. But could you imagine the school fees from N800k to N3.5m?

“We are setting the system for corruption. The system we are practicing now can’t bring the best out of our people “, he said.

On why he decided to step aside from politics, Daniel said he was surprised that the same people clamouring for the youth to take over were the same people criticizing him for taking a bow and leave active politicking.

On his brand of politics, Daniel says he has always maintained that he is an ‘ Afenifere’ in politics.

“ Even while I was the PDP Governor in Ogun state, I always maintain my stand as afenifere in politics. My politics has always being progressive “, he added.
