Prince Odeyemi: Adetunji Adeleke Was A Clear Departure From Old Poltics of Grandiose, He Was A Brand Till Death

The Peoples Democratic Party Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Prince Diran Odeyemi, has described the late Senator Isaaka Adetunji Adeleke as a political brand whose political ideology must be adopted and put to practice if truly we want social, political and economic development of Nigeria.

Odeyemi who disclosed this today at the remembrance prayer in honour of the first Executive Governor of Osun State, late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke said: “when Senator Adetunji Adeleke made known his intention to contest the governorship of the old Oyo State it caused serious ripples within the rank and file of political gladiators led by the political generalissimo of Ibadan politics, Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu in 1991.”

According to Odeyemi, “what Isiaka Adeleke did which was unique that time was his close relationship with the low, the mighty, the downtrodden and those that some people will referred to as the dregs of the society. Serubawon didn’t know how to discriminate, he loved everybody equally.

Senator Adetunji Adeleke by nature, without copying the acts of anybody always fraternized with virtually every member of the society, irrespective of his status, tribe or race.

Odeyemi added that ” by the time Osun State was created out of the old Oyo state, midway to the SDP party primaries in 1991, Senator Adetunji Adeleke had collected not less than 90% of the delegates from Osun division which translated to Osun State,” when consensus candidacy was proposed, Serubawon insisted on a democratically organized party primaries which made his election then a total victory.

According to Prince Odeyemi, Senator Adetunji Adeleke operated a full transparent democracy,  discussing all businesses of his government with both the executive and legislative arms of government, all subject to agreement with the judiciary.

Odeyemi in conclusion, therefore, was of the opinion that “for the development of true democracy in Nigeria, all the democratic principles political tenets and ideologies of the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke must be studied and put to practice by our emerging political leaders.”
