Governors; Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto, Prof Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers , Ifeanyin Ugwuanyi of Enugu and Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom are to be decorated by Pro Democracy Movement in Lagos during this year June 12 celebration.
The Planning Council of the 2019 June 12 Anniversary announced today that the award is to commemorate the 20th year of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria and the 26th edition of the annual celebration of June 12 Democracy Day
The governors were selected from among the 36 Governors in the country for deepening democratic governance in their various states
According to Prof Anthony Kila, Chairman of the Planning Council, “This year June 12 commemorative Breakfast ceremony scheduled to commence at 9am shall also witness as its high point, honours and tributes for Chief MKO Abiola, the late winter of the June 12, 1993 elections”
“The Breakfast award ceremony, which is also expected to affirm and honour MKO Abiola as President of Nigeria posthumously has been scheduled to hold between 8am and 12noon to allow majority of our pro democracy stakeholders and allies join other state planned ceremonies afterwards”
The theme of this year’s Anniversary, which will be Chaired by Chief Emeka Anyaoku (Former Secretary General of Commonwealth) is tagged: “MKO Abiola, Hope ’93 and the prospects of Democratic Prosperity in Nigeria: How far? How well?” Kila said
