…..Set agenda for them
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, heartily congratulates Messrs. Boss Mustapha and Abba Kyari on their re-appointment as the Secretary to the Federal Government and Chief of Staff by the President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR).
TUC In a statement issued by its president, Comrade Quadri Olaleye and general secretary, Comrade Lawal Ozigi, said; “We consider these appointments to mean that the duo have been proven to have performed creditably well in the first tenure of this administration.”
However, it is instructive to call on their attention to the task ahead. Put differently: “this is not the best of times for us as the challenges confronting the country have remained unabetted for reasons best known to those behind them.
“As stabilising forces in this administration we would like to appeal to the two principal officers to also extend their stabilising role to job creation, lasting security, and anything that would reposition the economy, ensure good governance, religious tolerance and guarantee quality social life.
“The office of the SGF and CoS come with enormous responsibilities, which include effective coordinating and monitoring of the implementation of government’s policies and programmes, constitutional matters and a host of others.
“ We charge them to be courageous enough to remove clogs on the wheel of the progress of the country. It does not matter whether the clogs are humans, or not. Most importantly, they too must not also constitute clogs to nation- building.
“The masses of this country have suffered so much due to inept leadership at various levels. Our infrastructure have collapsed and multinational companies fleeing our shores. “Our roads have become death traps; rate of suicides cases have astronomically increased, education is poorly funded. We are now more divided than ever. Every good intention is now misconstrued. There is absolutely no trust any longer in our land.” The statement noted.
“How do we move forward, then?
“The truth is, the transformation we earnestly seek cannot happen if we obdurately maintain our current narrative. It is vital at this point that the leadership shun anything that does not edify efforts of government. We appeal to them to use their good offices to prevail on political office holders to for God’s sake do the right thing. Once again we congratulate them as we await steller performance and sound human relations.”
