Supreme Court Dismisses Atiku’s Appeal, Affirms Buhari’s election

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the appeal filled by the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar as lacking in merit and affirmed President Muhammadu Buhari as validly elected in the February 23, 2019 presidential election.

The seven man panel of the court, led by Justice Tanko Ibrahim Mohammed, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, while dismissing the appeal filed by Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said in a unanimous judgement that there is no merit in the appeal.

Atiku had gone to the apex court to challenge the September 11 judgment of the Justice Mohammed Garba-led Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal which affirmed President Buhari’s victory at the polls.
