Of the N1.168trillion budget presented by the governor of Lagos state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday to the state house of assembly, N28.275billion was earmarked for his legacy projects across the 377 wards in the state.
Newsnow investigation revealed that Governor Sanwo-Olu, held a meeting with the councilors where he admonished then for their support and promised a legacy project of 75million per ward.
The Councillors who were ecstatic by the Governors promise of inclusion in his government have started making consultations, preparatory towards 2020.
According to the source, “Sooner than later, you will have a project worth N75million courtesy the Lagos State Government under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu in each of the 377 wards in Lagos State.
“Councillors across the state have been jubilating since Governor Sanwo-olu broke the good news to them at a crucial meeting last week.
“At the meeting, the governor praised them for working silently to support the chairmen of the councils and ensuring that there has been harmony in the relations between the executive and legislative arms at the local governments and local council development areas since he assumed office.
He, however, said it was in appreciation of their exemplary and supportive conduct that he has decided to partner with them to site a project worth N75million each per ward as a legacy of their tenure in office.
Sanwo-Olu advised them to consult their Chairmen, communities and the party elders as soon as possible.
Sources at the meeting confirmed that the government would execute the jobs through registered contractors and ask the councillors to supervise them.
The councillors are said to be holding meetings with the community development associations, CDAs their wards in order to meet the governor’s deadline.
It is not clear if Sanwo-Olu will extend the 3 years tenure of the council chairmen and councillors across the state because their tenure expires in June 2020.
