Borno Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara, has promised to ensure the re-establishment of civil authorities in hitherto strongholds of Boko Haram.
The governor said he would be starting the reconstruction of re-establishment of civil authorities in New and Old Marte that was under the control of Boko Haram for so long.
Umara who paid a visit to both told in Marte local government area of the state, by the shores the Lake Chad, told journalists after assessment that he would fast track the reconstruction in Marte to pave way for the establishment of civil authorities.
Marte Local Government was one of the Boko Haram stronghold liberated by the Nigerian military and multinational forces.
Umara visit, would be the first time a civilian delegation visited the communities in years.
The insurgents had attacked Marte in 2013, which led to residents fleeing and since then had not return even after it’s liberation.
Majority of them have been living in Monguno and Maiduguri with no civilian with gut to stay as Boko Haram continued to control the rich farming communities where the Chad basin Development Authority has thousands of farmlands.
