The Coalition of Women Groups in Ogun State took their protest for more inclusion of women in governance to the Governor’s Office, Oke Imosan, Abeokuta.
The Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, later received leaders of the Coalition in his office.
In the meeting that lasted for about one hour, Governor Abiodun told the Coalition led by Dr. Biola Akiode-Afolabi, that he needed not be taught about the importance of women in governance or in the society.
He recalled how he insisted that his deputy must be a female in the run-up to the elections.
He, however, said that just last week, he appointed a female as Head of Service without any lobby.
The Governor said all his female appointees are qualified people who can hold their own anywhere in the world and not appointed simple because they are women.
He directed his Chief of Staff to avail the Coalition the data on his female appointees as requested for by Dr. Akiyode-Afolabi, while also promising that more women will still be appointed on merit.
