Forensic Audit:Buhari Overrules Senate, dissolves NDDC Board

In a move that surprised many, President Muhammadu Buhari has dissolved the NDDC board, a list which he had earlier sent to the senate for clearance after the board has been screened.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Special Adviser, Media to the President, Mr Femi Adesina, said the NDDC board will be reconstituted after the completion of forensic audit.

The interim management board will be supervised by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

It will be recalled that shortly after the nomination of the NDDC board, there was a debate about the composition and how the interventionist agency has been turned into an avenue to siphon money meant for development in the Niger Delta areas. While the senate maintained that the NDDC board already screened should be inaugurated, Senator Akpabio through the support of some presidency officials were able to convince President Buhari that the NDDC should be investigated before a new board will be inaugurated in order to start on a clean slate. There was allegation of massive fraud rocking the NDDC, hence President Buhari ordered a forensic audit to sanitize it.

There was an allegation that a particular senator from the Niger Delta was having more than 300 abandoned projects that have been fully paid for.
