By Joshua Oriola
Unknown to many, the battle of who governs Lagos state in 2023 has begun in earnest.
Newsnow investigation revealed that a broadcast journalist,Olajide Adediran, CEO of Core Media, has thrown his hat into the ring.
To show that he is serious about his ambition, Adediran, has toured nearly all the local government areas in Lagos state empowering people and recruiting foot soldiers across the sector to support his gubernatorial campaign. He has also reached out to other professionals in the state to make his campaign all embracing.
The latest being Lati Oladimeji, a Nollywood act who is now the brand ambassador of Jandor Foundation.
And with the support of a prominent Minister in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration who is also a former governor of the state, other political bigwigs across the 20local governments and 37 local council development areas are said to be working to ensure that Adediran succeeds Sanwo-Olu In 2023.
The campaign group which just launched the Alimosho Local Government version of his campaign under the IBILE Eko group has inaugurated his coordinators. Those in the know say, “though, many people may believe that 2023 is too far , but the gubernatorial ambition of Adediran didn’t start today. The idea of The gubernatorial project was well thought out giving birth to the Jandor Foundation five years ago.
Adediran, has also enlisted the support of a popular Tax Man with huge war chest to prosecute his governorship ambition.
What’s not clear is if he has received the blessings of the godfather of Lagos politics and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to support his project.
Those who are in the know say Adediran is the candidate to beat in 2023 because of his structure across the state couple with the empowerment program.
The source who craves anonymity said, “ I can assure you that Adediran has what it takes to run the state. Since the days of Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, there has been an unwritten rule that a governor in Lagos no matter his performance will do one term, Fashola beat Tinubu to it because he was smart. Look at Akinwumi Ambode, despite his performance and efforts, he couldn’t secure the second term. I don’t see Sanwo-Olu who is eternally grateful to Tinubu saying no when the time comes if they ask him to step down.”
And talking about other stakeholders in the state such as the minister of Interior and former governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Commissioner for Environment, Muiz Banire, SAN, Presidential aide, Joke Orelope-Adefulire and others. The source said Adeniran has worked so hard in the last five years through the Jandor Foundation to reach out to the people and that his entrance may present a fait accompli in the sense that he is a thoroughbred Lagosian who has toiled day and night in the last five years. “He believes that power is not serve ‘al carte,’ so he is well prepared for the task ahead.” The source added.
