Things seem to be fallen apart for President Muhammadu Buhari in one of his strong hold of Borno State as youths in their large numbers trooped out to boo him during his condolence visit to Maiduguri on Wednesday.
As the president’s convoy which had the governors of Imo and Cross River states, Senator Hope Uzodima and Prof. Ben Ayade , the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Saddiya Umar Farouq in his entourage move close to the state Ramat Polytechnic, youths were sighted booing the president.
The youths punctured the much celebrate slogan of the president who was then referred to by them as Mai Gaskiya ( The Truthful one ) to now Mai Kariya (Liar)
The youths which number close to 100 climbed the Ramat Polytechnic pedestrian bridge while some stood at road ride to chant ” Ba, mu aso , ba mu aso , Ba mu ayi ba mu ayi , Mai Kariya . This hausa words translates to
” We don’t want you , We are no longer with you , Liar . ”
President Buhari Ignored Attacked Auno Community During Borno Visit
President Muhammadu Buhari failed to visit Auno Community during his one day state visits to Maiduguri the Borno State Capital.
On Sunday Night, Boko haram terrorists invaded Auno Village, 20 kilometres away from Maiduguri, Killed some villagers and set many houses ablaze while many travellers were burnt to death including an infant and and a female student of University of Maiduguri.
The president plane had touched ground at the Air force Base in Maiduguri at about 12: 57 pm to commiserate with the people over the recent Auno killings but choose to drive straight to the Shehu of Borno Palace and the Borno State Government House.
Against the thinking of many residents of Auno who had thought the president will head straight to their community and commiserate with them however waited in vain .
Babagana Modu, a resident of Auno who had joined other residents to gathered early Wednesday morning in anticipation of the President’s visit expressed strong dissatisfaction over his decision not to visit Auno.
” To say the least, we’re disappointed in Mr President for not visiting Auno where our people were killed. It is difficult to comprehend that President Buhari would decide not to visit Auno which is only 13km from the Ariforce base where he landed .” Modu said
But , Garba Shehu , one of the spokesmen of President Buhari said Auno was not among locations slated for visit by the president.
Shehu stated that the president, having been briefed of the incident in Auno flew directly from Ethiopia to comisserate with the people of Borno State with a visit to the Shehu of Borno Palace and the Government House .
” Auno was not part of the president’s visit , the president believe that he can commiserate with Borno people through the Shehu of Borno and the state governor. The president had wanted to visit the injured in the hospital but was told the all those attacked were killed and there was no injured persons in the hospital. ” Shehu said in an interview with journalists.
President Buhari ask Borno leaders to give useful information to the Military
At the Shehu of Borno Palace, President Buhari said the people must be ready and willing to give credible information to military authority to bring an end to the decade long insurgency.
” This Boko Haram or whoever they are, cannot come up to Maiduguri or its environs without the local leadership knowing; because, traditionally the local leadership are in charge of the security in their own respective areas.
” In my understanding of our culture, I wonder how Boko Haram survives up to this time. As commander in chief, I campaigned both in 2015 and 2019 on three fundamental issues and one is security because you cannot properly preside over a country without security, even those who don’t go school know this.” The President said
Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum who had earlier informed the president of the resurgence of the Boko haram attakcs and appealed to the president to find ways to arrest the urgly development.
” As regards to the situation in our state, Your Excellency, you have tried to reduce it to the barest minimum for some time; but only of recent it has resurfaced; hence we appealed to your Excellency for urgent attention. ” Governor Zulum said.
