By Gbenga Akingbule

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) on Monday donated  relief Materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno  State to alleviate their hardship.

This is not the first time NIMASA is reaching out to Borno IDPs, but this time around , the federal government agency are giving out relief materials to IDPs from the Lake Chad area of the state.

The relief materials which include food items , toiletries and grinding machines  was delivered by Mr Victor Onuzuruike in a brief ceremony at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Maiduguri the Borno State Capital.

Mr Onuzuruike who is also the Director of Internal Audit  of NIMASA said the agency is concerned about  the Boko haram insurgency that has led to the displacement of many Nigerians within the North East Region, hence the need to assist the IDPs.

” NIMASA is aware of the plight of the IDPs and that’s why we are here to give out some relief materials. We are here on behalf of our Director General,  Dr Dakuku Peterside, to render assistance to the IDPs.

” We are here to alleviate the suffering of the IDPs,  we’re aware that we can not meet all their needs but we believe that our intervention will go a long way at alleviating the plight of the IDPs ”  Onuzuruike said .

Chairperson of SEMA,  Hajja Yabawa Kolo who received the relief items on behalf of the State Government applauded NIMASA for their kind gesture and promised that the items will reach the deserving IDPs .

Kolo also commended the state  governor,  Prof Babagana Zulum for always reaching  out to all IDPs in the state .

She stated that the governor has prioritized the needs of the all IDPs living in camps and host communities.

Hajja Kolo added that the state governor had last week left the shores of Nigeria to Niger Republic to visit refugees from Borno State who were displaced after Boko haram terrorists attacked their communities.

” Governor Zulum visited Niger Republic last week and gave out relief materials to many refugees who fled their homes after Boko Haram attacks in 2014 .” Kolo said .
