One Greater -Lagos Fiesta 2019:Lagos Assembly Berates Sanwo-Olu’s Commissioner Over Poor Show

….Summons Ex-Commissioner

Lagos State House of Assembly has summoned the former Commissioner for Art, Culture and Tourism to come and explain why the Greater-Lagos Fiesta 2019 was poorly managed.

Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, member, Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Badagry Constituency 01, registered his displeasure against the One-Greater-Lagos Fiesta 2019, during the plenary yesterday, adding that  it was far below expectations.

The ranking legislator made this known following the motion raised by his counterpart, Hon. Solaja Saka-Nurudeen, representing Ikorodu constituency 02, suggesting that the former Commissioner for Art, Culture and Tourism, Shullamite Adebolu be summoned for further interrogation as the event didn’t reflect the purposes as proposed to the House.

Speaking in the same vein, Hon. Setonji David, representing Badagry Constituency 02, had earlier at the plenary condemned the project saying “The previous one has been good but this one is a shadow of itself ” and consequently suggested that whoever saddled with the responsibility should come for explanation.

The Lagos fiesta program was initiated by the immediate past Governor of the State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, as annual project and it recorded huge success then as it was a project commended by Lagosians.

The current administration, having noticed the popularity of the project amongst Lagosians, embraced it and decided to continue with it.

However, the House noticed some obvious lacuna in the last year’s project.

Registering his voice against the 2019 project, “OIL 88,” as Hon. Layode is fondly called, said : ” Let me first and foremost say that Hon. Setonji has had my mind spoken. However, I need to state that the last year’s Fiesta was below people’s expectations. It didn’t meet what it was proposed for.”

Speaking further, Layode said in strong term, others sitting on government’s money needs to be questioned. You can’t just do what you like as state functionaries.

“I therefore support Hon. Solaja for the motion raised in inviting the Commissioner to come and explain herself.”

Unfortunately, the new Commissioner, Ms Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf just took over after a minor cabinet reshuffle by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The former Commissioner,Shullamite Adebolu, has been sacked, ostensibly for poor performance in the ministry.

It’s not clear if the House will invite Seyi Tinubu, the son of former governor of Lagos state and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu since he was the contractor who handled the Lagos Fiesta project and allegedly bungled it.

Meanwhile, the House, in another session, also passed the Amotekun Bill into law.
