The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) Lieutenant Gen.TY Buratai, has on Saturday requested troops of Operation Lafia Dole (OPLD) to be ready for a very busy period in readiness for the continuation of war against Boko haram terrorists.
Although, Gen Buratai said he’s not ready to disclose his new plan of action but insisted that it’s going to be a very busy period for officers and soldiers at the theatre command.
COAS also requested willing Nigerian journalists to be embedded in the military operations but insisted that guidelines will be given on issues relating to National Security.
This was made known at a dinner in Maiduguri the Borno State Capital, in honour of former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafia Dole, Maj. Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, Buratai said he is keeping the next step of the fight close to his chest.
“We will not disclose our plans, but I’m sure that as you settle down , you will have a very very busy time . And all the new commanders should prepare for a very busy period.” Gen. Buratai told the new Theatre Commander , Forouk Yahaya .
The Army chief said he is optimistic his troops will in no distant future bring the Boko Haram Insurgency under control.
” Surely the insecurity can not be forever but we have to work collectively to ensure that we bring the situation under control , and effective control so that is our target , this is what we hope to achieve in the nearest future ” Gen . Buratai said
Buratai appealed to willing Nigerian journalists, particularly those who are resident in Borno State and had reported the decade- long war from inception to join his troops at the battle field with a view to ensuring that Nigerian are adequtely informed .
“And for our friends – Journalists , who have seen it all right from the beginning, we are inviting you join us to go to the field and see what our troops are doing.
” So that what ever happens, you will have first hand knowledge but of course, with very very strong position and understanding of the implications of whatever happens here on National Security . So yout reports must reflect and conform to our National Interest.
” Be rest assured, if you’re embedded with us , we will guide you and ensure we get the right thing across so that our country will be proud and everybody will appreciate the efforts you put in place to keep our country safe . ” Gen Buratai said
However, the dinner was not just about the new strategy to crush boko haram fighters but an opportunity the Army utilise to clear the air on some misgivings that led to the removal of the former Theatre Commander, General Adeniyi.
Surely the insecurity can not be forever but we have to work collectively to ensure that we bring the situation under control , and effective control so that is our target , this is what we hope to achieve in the nearest future
Your leaving here is not for any other reason apart from the routine administrative functions that we have to carry out from time to time. Whatever insinuations that had been in the air is just the mere imaginations of those people who are peddling the rumour or write_up
” I will like to congratulate you for a very successful tenure as the Theatre Commander
” We are here to honour , Maj. Gen O J Adeniyi. It’s an honour that is well deserved. He has shown very high level of understanding of the operational environment that has place him in a very good stage to have to have really achieved tremendous success as the commander Operation Lafia Dole.
” He ( Gen Adeniyi) came at a time when things were vertully crumbling, and his leadership style tuned things around to bring us to where we are today. He never lead from the rear; he’s always in front. That’s the type of leadership that is required.” Gen. Buratai said .
