Ramadan:Borno To hold Eid-el-Fitr Congregational Prayers Amidst Increasing Coronavirus Cases

The Borno State government has approved the congregational Eid-el- Fitr prayers to mark the end of this year fasting and prayers month for muslims .- the holy month of Ramadan.  

This is happening as the data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC) indicates that Borno is currently number five on the table with 277 COVID-19  confirmed cases with one of the highest deaths rate in the country. 

Deputy Governor of Borno State , Hon Umar Usman Kadafur made the disclosure after due consultation with Islamic clerics in the state . 

Hon Kadafur who doubles as the Chairman of the State High-powered Committee on

the prevention and mitigation of COVID-19 said the adequate measures have been taken to prevent worshippers from contracting the deadly Virus at Eid prayer grounds. 

On Monday The Minister of State for Health,  Hon.Olorunnimbe Mamora,  said Lagos, Kano and Borno states accounted for 52 per cent of COVID-19 deaths in the country.

But the Borno state deputy governor revealed that hand sanitizers will be provided at strategic points insisting on covid19 protocol of social distancing and wearing face mask by all worshipers. 

However,  the Deputy Governor led Committee admonish Muslim worshippers who are above 60 years of age and have chronic medical conditions to stay away from the Eid prayer grounds.  

” The public may observe the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the designated Eid grounds between the hours of 8-10 am on that day.

” In furtherance of measures of infection prevention, the committee has made available hand sanitizers at strategic points for use by the public, and therefore urges the public to take full advantage of such.

“The committee wishes to reiterate that the public should strongly observe the use of face masks and practice social distancing.

“The committee further advises that all persons above 60 years of age, those with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus, asthma or chronic

respiratory disease and acute febrile illnesses should please refrain from attending the Eid prayers. ” Kadafur said.
