A political group based in the FCT, Abuja, Obaseki Mandate Forum, has reportedly obtained nomination forms for the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state.

The group’s chairman, Nathaniel Momoh, obtained the form on Wednesday, May 27, from the party’s national secretariat on behalf of Governor Obaseki.

Momoh said the forum joined forces with people from Edo state to buy the nomination and expression of interest form for the governor. He said the forum decided to purchase the forms for Obaseki as a result of his impressive performance in the last four years.

This is coming barely few hours after Osagie Ize-Iyamu, another Edo governorship aspirant, picked his nomination form for the All Progressives Congress governorship primary. The primary is scheduled to hold on Monday, June 22.

Ize-Iyamu, a former secretary to Edo state government, emerged the candidate of the party on the night of Tuesday, May 26, in Abuja through a consensus arrangement.

Ize-Iyamu, a pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), was presented by chairman of the screening committee, Senator Francis Alimikhena.

In his reaction, Governor Obaseki declared that he was not desperate about his re-election for the second term in office.

He said the next gubernatorial election in the state was not a priority for him now. The Edo governor noted that he was more concerned about keeping the people of the state alive especially now that COVID-19 cases are rising.
