135 COVID-19 Patients Discharged In Borno

By Bukar Bolori

Borno state government has disclosed that 135 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from the isolation centres in the state after their third test result came out negative.

The patients who were initially tested positive to the pandemic had two other tests which both came out negative, passing them to be discharged.

Speaking on Friday at the Abba Kyari COVID-19 isolation centre in Maiduguri, the Borno state deputy governor, Usman Kadafur made the disclosure.

Kadafur, who said the state has recorded successes in recent time, commended the efforts of World Health Organisation (WHO) and other developmental partners who have collaborated with the Borno state since the outbreak of the disease.

The deputy governor, who is also the Chairman, Committee on Response and Prevention of COVID-19, described the collaboration as a huge success in the fight against COVID-19 in the state.

He attributed the successes recorded so far, to the efforts of the taskforce committee and health workers, who put in their best within the past weeks in containing the pandemic.

He reiterated the commitment of the government towards improving the welfare of frontline workers who remained at the forefront in preventing the spread of the virus.

He promised those still at the Isolation centre that government will improve on their welfare and support them to recover fully.

Kadafur however advised the people to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 preventive protocols to mitigate and completely eradicate the virus in the state.

Also speaking, Prof. Aliyu Kodiya , the Chairman, Borno Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), said that a total of 40 health workers tested positive to COVID-19 with majority of them discharged.

Kodiya said that most of them developed mild and moderate symptoms of the virus during the mandatory 14 days isolation after they were discovered to been in contact with victims of COVID-19.

He,however, lamented that a nurse was lost to the virus.
