The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has on Monday performed the foundation laying Ceremony for the construction of 200 -Bed Army Reference Hospital in Borno State – the epic centre of 11 year old Boko Haram insurgency .
The Hospital, when completed, will be adequately staffed and equipped to meet international standard says the Nigeria Army
Also , the Army Hospital , located in Maiduguri the state capital is not just expected to serve the military alone , the facility, when completed will also be accessible to civilians says the Army .
Gen. Buratai made the disclosure while laying the foundation of the 200- bed Army Reference Hospital located close to the Maimalari Barracks along the popular Baga road in Maiduguri .
According to Gen.Buratai, the need for the Army Reference Hospital in Maiduguri can not be overemhasized as it will provide prompt Medical care to troops within the North East region.
” Evacuation of personnel to Kaduna has often resulted to waste of valuable time especially, for emergency.
” Within the Northeast region, the counter-insurgency efforts of the Nigerian Army sometimes resulted in casualty that required special medical care, which currently, the 44 Nigerian Army reference hospital provides.” The Army Chief said .
COAS who revealed that the Nigeria Army has made remarkable progress in the fight against Boko Haram / ISWAP and other criminal elements in the country assured that the welfare of troops will always be accorded the desired attention.
“Nigerian Army is committed to ensuring the welfare of its personnel and families including families of deceased colleagues; that’s why we are gathered here today to boost efforts at providing effective and efficient healthcare delivery for personal,”
Gen. Buratai said .
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, who was represented by his Chief of Staff , Babagana Wakil at the occasion commended the Nigeria Army for the establishment of the Army reference hospital in Maiduguri.
“The completion of this hospital will add more values to both troops and communities of Borno state. ” Wakil said .
