Obaseki To Oshiohmole: Stay Away From Edo Primaries

Oshiohmole & Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has warned his predecessor and national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiohmole to stay away from Edo gubernatorial primaries.

Speaking at the party headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms, Obaseki maintains that since Oshiohmole is an interested party, he should stay away.

He, however, complained about the mode of the primaries as directed by the national working committee of his party, adding that democracy is bottom up approach.

“ I came to submit my expression of interest and nomination forms. We are ready for the primaries, but I don’t think the NWC is doing the right thing. The state executive committee ought to advise the NWC on the system to adopt based on the prevailing situation. Democracy is bottom up approach and not the other way round,” he said while raising objection to the of primaries adopted by the NWC, which is direct.

It will be recalled that Obaseki has earlier said based on the COVID-19 pandemic, it will not be wise to gather a large party members at a venue for the direct primaries.

He has also said he would not defect to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, saying that he will contest and win the APC ticket.
