NDDC Probe:Gbajabiamila Lied, Akpabio Listed NASS Members Who Are Contractors With NDDC—Ubani …Says NASS Afraid Of Forensic Audit ….Urges Buhari Not To Implement Senate Recommendation

Monday Ubani

“NASS has seen NDDC as honey pot. They have taken so much from the agency and that’s why there’s no development despite the trillions that the NDDC has received. NASS is Against the forensic audit and that’s why they want to stall it”

A Lagos lawyer, Mr Monday Ubani, has challenged the national assembly committee probing the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, especially the House of Representatives to make good its threat to file a lawsuit against the Minister of Niger delta affairs , Senator Godswill Akpbio for criminal deformation and perjury if it’s sure members of the house are not culpable in the malfeasance going on in the agency.

Speaking on a current affairs program, Sunday Politics on Channelstv monitored in Lagos on Sunday, Ubani said the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila was economical with the truth after reading the letter sent by Senator Akpabio on Thursday , when he said the minister did not name any of them in the contract scams going on in the NDDC.

Ubani maintains that Akpabio actually listed Bunmi Ojo, the chairman of house committee on NDDC as one of those who said unless contracts to the tune of N9.9billion is settled, the house will not pass its budget.

He, however, explained that Akpabio also listed the name of Senate committee chairman on NDDC as part of those involved in the list sent to the House, but that Gbajabiamila chose to read where it please them and his colleagues clapped for him.

He was however countered by the chairman, house committee on media and publicity, Mr Ben Kalu, who insisted that those listed may not actually be the contractors, but acting on behalf of the people from their constituency who’s putting pressure on them to help them talk to the NDDC to pay them.

Ubani when prodded Further to name other people on the Akpabio’s letter to the house declined that he will prefer to meet the house in court.

“ Why do you think Gbajabiamila said he would refer Akpabio’s letter to the ethics committee maybe there won’t be any need again to file any lawsuit?” He queried.

The Lagos lawyer also urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to listen to the recommendation of the senate to dissolve the NDDC management and ask the committee to refund N4.9billion, adding that there were lot of inconsistencies in the report.

He said, “ The senate said it was probing missing N40billion, while the house was probing missing N81billion. At the end of the probe, what did they find? Now, the senate is on three months recess without approving the budget of the NDDC.

“NASS has seen NDDC as honey pot. They have taken so much from the agency and that’s why there’s no development despite the trillions that the NDDC has received. NASS is Against the forensic audit and that’s why they want to stall it.” He said.
