The campaign for the second term in office of the Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki got a boost on Friday when the Chief Imam of Benin, Alhaji Abdulfatah Enabulele endorsed him for a second term.
The chief imam gave the endorsement when he paid a Sallah homage to Governor Obaseki at the government House.
Alhaji Enabulele commended Governor Obaseki for his steadfastness and dedication to duty.
Responding, Obaseki thanked the Benin Chief Imam and his entourage for the support and pledge to do more for the people who have shown enormous support for his administration.
He, however, urged the people not to be deterred by the All Progressives Congress tricks to intimidate his supporters and use federal might against them.
“They have tried violence, they are bringing arms, they are trying to intimidate our supporters, but it won’t work,” Obaseki added.
But in quick response, the director general of Osagie Ize-Iyamu campaign organisation, Patrick Obahiagbon, said it wasn’t an endorsement, adding that it was an annual ritual to the incumbent governor of the state.
He said, “ I have been around Government house for awhile now. I can tell you that it was an annual ritual. If they have come on ordinary day, that would have been an endorsement.”
