Following the reported overtures by some proxies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in this week’s governorship election in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, a chieftain of ZLP, Alhaji Kazeem Ademola, has warned him (Ajayi), to steer clear of overtures and logistic support from the ruling party.
According to him, such support is aimed at egging Ajayi on to certain failure on Saturday and consequently preventing any alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ademola, who stated this in a statement issued in Okitipupa on Monday, said it had become clear that some APC’s proxies aim is to frustrate the proposed last-minute alliance whereby the ZLP candidate would step down for the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and send APC’s incompetent administration packing from the state.
Ademola said: “Now that it has become clear that ZLP cannot win the election and needs to fuse into PDP, APC bigwigs have just held a meeting in Akure whereby they resolved to provide Ajayi with fraudulent financial and logistics support with a view to preventing him from stepping down for Eyitayo Jegede. The game plan is to frustrate the alliance with PDP and thus reduce PDP votes.
“Their bigger aim is to reduce him to nothing politically in Ondo State, so that he can be left without any fall-back option after the election. He should reject the wicked overtures and endorse the PDP candidate.
“We have consulted far and wide across the 18 local governments in the state and the general consensus of our members is that we should all work for the PDP candidate on Saturday. That has already been communicated to Hon Ajayi and he needs to act without delay.”
