Fake Professorial Appointment: Ganduje Threatens To Deal With Prof Mbarika

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has hinted the state is planning to take action on Prof Mbarika, the academic staff of East Carolina University, who was at the heart of the scandal of fake professorial appointment awarded to the Governor recently.

The East Carolina University’s (ECU) has denied appointing the Governor its visiting professor saying, “the letter you received from Dr. Victor Mbarika, on November 30, 2020 does not convey an authorized offer of appointment or establish any position of scholar or professor at East Carolina University (“ECU”).”

Speaking on Mu Tattauna, a segment on Mu Leka Mu Gano, a Freedom Radio Kano news programme, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, said the government is studying the letter to determine the action to take.

He said, the government is considering asking the university to take a punitive action against the faculty member. The action of the staff has brought disrepute to the entire state.

Yakasai said as far as the government is concerned the letter of appointment came from the university through their staff. “Why would they allow him to write, with their permission? Who authorized the publishing of His Excellency Governor’s photo on their website and his biography as one of their visiting professors? Did we, from Kano, go to US, East Carolina University, and put all these on their website?” queried Yakasai.

Yakasai went on to say that, “Governor Ganduje is an accomplished scholar who gets into government with a PhD and two master’s degrees. “He could have been more than a professor, if such a position exists, had he been in academics”.

He challenged anyone to prove that it is a scam or an arranged job.

Speaking on the same programme, however, Comrade Kabiru Saidu Dakata, Executive Director of the Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA), said they knew it would come to this. He said this not the first time Kano State Government, under Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, got involved in a thing like this. In September 2019 the government announced receiving an award on excellence as the “Best Governor” from a non-existing, Dakar based, African Democracy Assessment Network (ADAN).

Sahelian Times’ investigations found out that there is no single mention of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on any website that is related to either East Carolina University or International Center for IT and Development.

Searches conducted on www.ecu.edu, www.demo.fancyread.com and www.icitd.com did not return any result. Ganduje was equally not listed among visiting professors on “Visiting Professors” page at www.demo.fancyread.com.
