As the Lagos Local Government election slated for July 24 continues to generate controversy, Lagos deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has perfected plans to impose his younger brother, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat as the chairmanship candidate of Ifako Ijaiye Local Government.
The incumbent chairman, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, who’s serving his second and final term, we gathered is not contesting again.
Sources within the council hinted that this did not go down well with the other aspirants who have promised to slug it out with the Hamzat junior.
A three Times house of assembly member, Hon. Saka Fafunmi is leading the charge against the deputy governor’s candidate.
Fafunmi, who was sacked in a controversial circumstances as the political adviser to the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, has told those cared to listen that he’s prepared for the primary election slated for the May 29.
Newsnow Investigation revealed that though Hamzat has promised to lobby to appoint Fafunmi as member of the state executive council , his experience as the political adviser to Obasa and how he was removed was not too pleasant to him.
Also, Obasa may not be disposed to the candidature of Fafunmi because of his ambition to run for senate in 2023. Ifako Ijaiye is very strategic for any candidate aspiring for the Lagos West Senatorial district in 2023.
Meanwhile, an old war horse, Kayode Aremo, a political scientist is said to be putting together his structure in the council area. He’s one of the loyal supporters of Dr. Elijah Adewale, a former leader of the council and member of House of Representatives who died in a controversial circumstances in Abuja.
