Chief Of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya, Gifts Ailing Dramatist, ‘Samanja ‘ N2m For Treatment

The Chief of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya, has donated two million Naira for the treatment of Usman Baba Pategi aka Samanja.

The Veteran dramatist who hails from Pategi, Kwara state has also received a donation of five hundred thousand Naira from Kwara state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq.

‘Samanja’, a retired soldier went into drama in 1985 after his service in the army.

While his ‘Samanja’ drama on NTA lasted, he was the toast of television theatre fans across Nigeria, far beyond the targeted northern audience.

For some years now, the 79 years old Samanja has fallen sick due to old age, battling liver problem. He once received treatment in India before returning to Nigeria. 

Unfortunately, his wife who was attending to his needs on the sick bed died. This reportedly contributed to his worsening health. Since then, he lived from hand to mouth while struggling to stay alive.

Samanja, whose death rumour went viral few days ago, has said he is alive and wishes to live more years in good health.
