Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari On social media, Ms. Lauretta Onochie allegedly lied to the senate committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Onochie while answering questions on her membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress denied that she stopped partisan politics after the election of her principal In 2019.
But a document sighted by Newsnow showed where she tweeted in 2020 about the online meeting of the APC showed clearly that Onochie was economical with the truth.
There have been uproar about her nomination to serve as INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner because of her position on political issues, but President Buhari seems to have made up his mind to present Onochie for confirmation before the senate.
Several petitions have also been written by civil society organizations, political parties and other well meaning Nigerians that Onochie’s inclusion in the electoral body will not augur well for the independence of INEC based on her position as a card carrying member of the APC and her position on political issues.
Samson Itodo of YIAGA Africa while speaking on Onochie’s nomination had urged the Senator Kabiru Gaya led committee not to approve Onochie because of her partisanship so as not to taint the electoral body and the reforms being done by the senate committee.
