……Surulere Apex Leader Writes Obafemi Hamzat Appeal Committee
For Hon. Tunde Balogun, the chairman of All Progressives Congress Caretaker committee, Lagos state chapter, this is not the best of time.
Leaders of the party in Itire-Ikate LCDA have dragged him to court over illegal substitution of three councilorshp candidates that were approved by consensus and affirmed by the political leaders in the LCDA.
In a pre-litigation letter written to Balogun led committee, and sighted by Newsnowonline over the Illegal substitution, the leaders in Itire-Ikate urged him to do the needful and restore those three names he substituted for his own candidates.
Balogun has also replied through his legal adviser, threatening that any group or leaders in the party who instituted legal action against the party without exploring the internal mechanism for resolving conflict will be sanctioned.
Accusing fingers are pointing towards the direction of Balogun who is allegedly working with his younger brother, Rasaq Balogun, a former member of House of assembly who reside in the area and the incumbent chairman of Itire-Ikate, Mr. Akeem Apatira to subvert the wishes of the political Leaders In the area.
An appeal committee that was set up initially to review the process was bungled.
A source within the area told Newsnowonline that Wale Edun, who presides over the Local Government primaries election was not happy with how Balogun mismanaged the whole process, with allegations of bribery and corruption trailing him.
It has gotten so bad that Balogun has been nicknamed, ‘BalooDollar’ because of the humongous bribe, both in Naira and foreign currency running into several millions allegedly collected by him.
A group within the APC, Lagos4Lagos, has also called for the Probe and sack of Balogun for the way he bungled the primaries after collecting huge nominations fees ranging from N2m to 500k.
Speaking at a sensitization rally for the coming congresses on Sunday in Lagos, Lead Visioner of the group, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran said the national Caretaker committee should audit the Lagos state chapter and sack it because it has outlived its usefulness.
Worried by the way the primaries was election disrupted, National Leader of the APC and former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has set up another appeal committee led by the deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat to look into the Itire-Ikate complaints.
Chief D. O Adenekan, an apex leader in Surulere In a strongly worded letter to Hamzat committee indicted Balogun as the brain behind the illegal substitution after the political leaders have done their due diligence.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, has also been accused of changing names of candidates earlier submitted, but the chairman of the commission, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (rtd) has washed her hands off the allegation that it was the party officials that are responsible for submitting and substitution of candidates where necessary.
With the plethora of litigations starring the state Caretaker in the face less than two weeks to the July 24 local government election, the days ahead will determine what will happen next.
