A group, Coalition of Political Parties In Lagos State, COPPILS, has congratulated the winners of the just concluded local government election in Lagos state.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, Chairman of COPPILS, Mr. Akinola Obadiah who is also the chairman of Boot Party, said the group was elated that the election was hitch free.
Flanked by other twelve political parties representatives, Obadiah , however commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC for organizing a free, fair and peaceful election across the state.
He commended the participants and their supporters for the peaceful comportment, before, during and after the election.
On the security arrangement for the election, Obadiah commended the security operatives for ensuring a hitch free election.
He applauds the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu for a job well done.
He, however, expressed reservations about the turn out during the election and explained that the group is suggesting that a tripartite meeting should be organized between INEC, political parties and civil society to fashion out how to improve on the turn out in subsequent elections.
He enjoined all well meaning lagosians, especially the youth to show more interest in the electing those who will represent them at all levels.
“At this juncture, the active political parties in the state must begin to sensitize its members in order to have a better turn out in the future election.” He said.
Buttressing the position of the chairman, the Public Relations Officer of the group, Hon. Abiodun Salami said it behaves on the people to turn out to perform their civic duty during election in order to have a say in who will govern them.
He maintained that voters’ apathy is not the best as according to him will not bring out the best in our people.
