Former military president, Gen Ibrahim Babangida has decried the level of corruption in Nigeria.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Arise tv monitored in Lagos on Friday as part of the activities to mark his 80th birthday anniversary , Babangida said the level of corruption now is mind boggling.
“If you compare the level of corruption now to what happened under our administration, we were saints. I fired a military administrator for misapplied less than four hundred thousand Naira. Now you hear stories of billions of Naira being misappropriated with the people walking the streets.” He said.
On the 2023 presidential election and way out of the political logjam, Babangida said there are about three people in their sixties who are versed in the economy and well connected across the country that can run the country in 2023.
Babangida said failure of leadership was responsible for Nigeria’s woes, adding that there’s no core values that people must adhere strictly to as a national ethos.
On why he annulled the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by his friend,Chief MKO Abiola, he said there would have been violent coup that would have caused more instability in the system if he handed over to Abiola.
