For mummy Jemima,( a Widow with 8 children) it’s a heluva of sort. Her daughter reunited with her after she was released from her abductors after 13 days in captivity. Jemima journey to the den of kidnappers in Shagamu began two weeks ago. Abigail, one of her mother’s staff came around and lured her away with ‘Chinchin’ on a motorbike. Initially, Jemima’s mother thought that her daughter strayed away and could not found her way back home. She approached the nearest police station in Ogombo and she was referred to State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba where they could possibly track Jemima’s whereabouts, but Jemima’s mother met a brick wall when the policemen were demanded for N300k to track the girl. Thereafter, she got a call that her 5 year old daughter has been kidnapped and has to pay N10m. Jemima’s mother pleaded that she’s a widow trying to put the pieces of her life together after her husband’s demise. After much discussion, it moved to N2m, then the kidnappers agreed to collect N200k. The woman promptly informed the Baale of New Moba Town, Chief Sarafadeen Elegusi of her plight and the Baale said she should play along with the kidnappers and asked where she should drop the ransom for her daughter to be released. A deal was struck and somewhere around Ajah was agreed. Unknown to the Jemima’s mother, the Baale has arranged some able bodied young men to provide a cover and monitor those who will pick the ransom. After dropping the ransom, Jemima’s mother asked where to pick her daughter and the Praise one of the kidnappers who came to pick the money said that will be after counting the money and ascertained that it was exact amount agreed upon. The woman was coming back home dejected not knowing that there was an instruction from the Baale to the young men to track and arrest if possible whoever comes for the money. As the Praise picked the money and crossed to the other side of the road, one of the Baale’s men who have been monitored him pounced on him and others joined to arrest him. He (Praise) was taken to Baale’s place where he confessed that two others at large co opted him into the crime. Pronto! The Baale took him in his vehicle after asking him to call his two other gangs. The two, Daniel and Victor were also arrested by Baale’s men and they confessed that Jemima was in Shagamu with a lady accomplice named Abigail. At this point, the Baale drove the three accused to Ogombo police station for further interrogation.
Unfortunately, the two accused Daniel and Victor have worked for Jemima’s mother to collect daily contribution in the area. It was pleasantly surprised to Jemima’s mother that her former staff could be responsible for her child theft. At Ogombo, the young men were asked to put a call to the lady accomplice in Shagamu to bring Jemima first thing the following morning that the ransom has been paid. The girl sensing that the modus operandi was to be collecting money from Jemima’s mother without releasing the girl sense that her co accused must have been apprehended came in the morning with the girl and alighted at Eleko junction on Lekki/Epe Expressway. She asked a driver to drop the 5 year old girl at Ikate that her sister who’s the mother’s girl will pay the 1000 agreed transportation fees. The driver agreed, oblivious of the lady devious plan and was promptly arrested at Ikate. Jemima has told her mother and those who came to sympathize with them that he was not allowed to bathe for 13 days. That’s not all, she was tortured and feed with water while she slept on a bare floor where she also urinated in her body. The three accused and the driver has been transferred to Panti. But Jemima’s mother was shocked that the investigating police officer told her to go that they would call her whenever they want to speak with her. This has fueled speculation that the police may want to bungled the Investigation because of the poor status of Jemima’s mother. Though, the fourth accused (Abigail) who is also the girl friend of Praise, the gang leader is at large, no news was release to the media as regards the Kidnap, neither was it in Police bulletin to know the update about the case.
Attempts to speak to Police PRO, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu was unsuccessful as at the time of filling this report.
