Why I changed My Name From ‘Ahmed’ To Mathew—-Ashimolowo

Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre, KICC, Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo has explained why he changed his name from ‘ Ahmed’ to Mathew.

Speaking at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Youth Convention on Wednesday night at the Redemption Camp, Ashimolowo said he was born a Muslim but had to change his name when he met Christ.

The Ode-Omu, Osun state born clergy said being born again was a turning point in his life.

With the theme, “ Exceeding Expectations’ Ashimolowo told the youth that they must let go the past and ‘ wash their faces’ in order to make the quantum leap in life.

Speaking from the Book of Ruth , Ashimolowo said Ruth was able to see that her destiny is attached to Naomi despite the calamity that befell her, losing her husband and only child. “Even while Naomi counseled her to leave and go her separate ways to start a new life elsewhere, Ruth followed her mother in law until she met Boaz that turned her life around and gave birth to Obed. You must have a vision and be focused”

In two minutes, I will tell you my story.

“My name was Ahmed , my brother Mudashiru , my sister Adijat , my father Salawu and my mother was Aisha. At 20, I became born again . At 21, received the call. At 22, I went to Bible College, and at 24, I started pastoring Foursquare Gospel Church In ‘Face me, I Face you’ house  in Somolu. But something kept telling me, ‘ you are bigger than this’. As a teenager, I was hawking stuff and backing baby even as a man. The ‘Sahara desert’  you see on my head today is as result of hawking. “We’ll sleep by 12 midnight and waking up by 5am the following morning without enough sleep to develop my brain as a teenager .

“The woman I was staying with was too tough. She will say in the morning while waking us up, ‘ You’ll never amount to anything”.

Ashimolowo counseled the youth to be steadfast and have a vision to run with. “Don’t let your past define your destiny. Don’t focus too much on the past. Have a vision that you will run with.” He said.
