Accountant General of Nigeria, Mr. Ahmed Idris is presently at the centre of controversy over his alleged secret marriage to a 16 year old girl as third wife.
The video of the secret marriage now in circulation has continued to generate ripples over the alleged violation of Girl child rights.
It will be recalled that only 23 states have been able to domesticate the child rights act that was enacted in 2012 to stem the issue of child abuse.
Most of the states in the core north have refused to domesticate the act. In fact, most of the leaders in the northern part of Nigeria has insisted that a girl is of age once she marries, irrespective of her age according to their customs and traditions.
Also, a former governor of Zamfara state, Sen. Ahmed Yerima was in the news when his marriage to a 14 year old Egyptian was made known after his marriage to a 16 year old girl.
Former minister of Agriculture, Mohammed Nanono was also alleged to have married a 16 year old girl secretly before he was sacked two months ago.
Former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi 11 was also accused of violating child rights act when he married a 17 year old secondary school girl.
