Fanimokun To Sanwo-Olu:LASU Must Be Named After Jakande, We Are Not Begging

A former permanent Secretary in Lagos state, Chief Tunde Fanimokun, has insisted that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu must as a matter of necessity name Lagos State University,LASU, after its founder and former governor of the state, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

Speaking at the 3rd annual lecture series of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Nigeria, REDAN, in Lagos on Thursday, He maintained that the family is not begging the state governor to do what’s right.

Fanimokun who was the Guest Speaker at the event said “if OAU was named after the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Bendel State University was named after Prof Ambrose Ali, Ondo State University was named after its founder, Chief Adekunle Ajasin, LASU, must be named after its founder.

“The godfather will not be there forever, we are not begging. LASU must be named after Jakande. He was the founder.” He said.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the Jakande’s family , Engr Kamal Giwa, who was in charge of the medium housing estate in Ikeja and Alapere Under Jakande said the REDAN members also need to impress it on Governor Sanwo-Olu to name LASU after Jakande.

He, however, said the family has made the same request from the governor Sanwo-Olu that LASU be named after Jakande.

Also in his remarks, the CEO of Revolution Plus, Mr. Bamidele Onalaja said he was surprised that the governor hasn’t done the needful by naming LASU after Jakande.

“After the death of Alhaji Jakande, I met with Sanwo-Olu and I impressed it on him that it’s the right thing to do. I don’t know what’s holding him back, maybe the politics.” He said.
