GAC Endorses Ambode’s Deputy For Senate As Yayi Relocates To Ogun West
Governors’ Advisory Council, GAC, and influential political think thank seems to have endorsed the former deputy governor of Lagos state, Dr. Idiat Adebule for Senate.
Incidentally, Adebule is also a member of the GAC, a powerful political group that determines who gets what in Lagos politics.
GAC was the initiative of a former governor of the state and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to control the levers of power at the expiration of his second term in 2007.
Idiat, who was the deputy governor of Mr. Akinwumi Ambode according to reliable source was chosen because of her loyalty to the party, even when it was against her political ambition to do so in 2018.
The source who was privy to the arrangement said the GAC has settled for Adebule.
She’s likely to contend with another former deputy governor, Orelope Adejoke-Adefulire who is the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari On Sustainable Development Goals, SDG, who’s also said to be interested in the Lagos west senate seat.
Already, the incumbent senator representing the Lagos West Senatorial district, Adeola Olamilekan, aka Yayi, has moved to Ogun West to contest for the same senate seat.
It would be recalled that Dr. Adebule withdrew support for her boss, Akinwumi Ambode in 2018, during the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress and pitched her tent with Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“It’s a question of a good turn, deserves another, Dr. Adebule is being compensated for her loyalty to the party when it mattered most,” said the source.
