2023:APC Won’t  Use Consensus To Select Presidential Candidate—Abe

“On why he chooses to support Tinubu against his former friend and kinsman, Rotimi Amaechi, Abe said it’s about capacity and not sentiment”

A former senator, Magnus Abe has said that the All Progressives Congress will not use consensus to select its presidential candidate for 2023 election.

Speaking on a current affairs program, Politics Today, monitored in Lagos on Tuesday, Abe said the party will not use what’s not fair to determine who becomes its presidential candidate in 2023.

He, however, insisted that the party must ensure that the process leading to the selection of its presidential candidate is fair to all.

Abe however said the former governor of Lagos state and national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu remains the best of the lot contesting in the APC.

On why he chooses to support Tinubu against his former friend and kinsman, Rotimi Amaechi, Abe said it’s about capacity and not sentiment.

He said, “We should be careful of the leader we throw up. Let us not use sentiment. The experience of the person we are looking at and his track records is very important. On the health status of Tinubu and age, I think he’s eminently qualified going by what’s going on around the world. If look at China Xi Jinping, the architect of modern China, he was in his 80s. Look at the US, Joe Biden is in his 80s. So look at the track record of Asiwaju. At a point he was the only governor on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy, AD. He was able to recover all the states that were taken through rigging and went ahead to form the ACN. 

“He was able to come up with merger that berthed the APC. That’s unprecedented.”
