Breaking: 30 Years After, Old War Horse, Atiku Abubakar Defeats Wike, Saraki, Udom, Others To Emerge PDP Presidential Candidate

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner in the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, defeating his closet rival, Nyesome Wike with 371 votes to 237 votes.A total of 763 votes were cast while Twelve votes were voided. Total valid votes is 731.With the results, Atiku will run as the presidential candidate of the PDP next year.The primary election which held at the MKO Abiola stadium, Abuja was full of intrigues and horse trading. Shortly before the voting commence, Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto state Governor and one of the PDP presidential aspirants stepped down for Atiku and urged his supporters to vote for him.The process was characterized by votes buying according to one of the aspirants, Hayatudeen Mohammed, who had earlier withdrawn from the race.The breakdown showed that former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim got 14 votes, former President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki garnered 70 votes, while Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom received 38 votes.Others are Sam Ohunabunwa 1 vote and Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed scored 20 votes.With the peaceful conclusion of the PDP presidential primaries, attention will now be shifted to the ruling All Progressives Congress,which after several postponement has now shifted its primary to June 7, 2022.It will be recalled that Atiku started his presidential contestation 30 years ago in 1992, during the famous Jos convention of the defunct Social Democratic Party.
