Bizarre ! Lagos Council House Leader Beats Female Councillor, Clerk Of The House 

In a strange development, the Leader of the House in Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, Mr. Olatunji Ogunyemi in the afternoon of Tuesday 18th September, 2022 suddenly went berserk, beating up his female colleague, the Majority Leader of the House Mrs. Busola Afolabi and the Clerk of the House, Mr. Adeyemi Oshibodu and other members of staff who made attempts to wrest the two victims from his acts of brutality.

This ugly incidence was presumed to have ensued when the six other members of the house refused to allow Ogunyemi to corner a disproportionate share of an allowance that was supposed to be shared equally among the councilors and the clerk who is the administrative head of the department.

Eye witnesses accounts suggest that the House Leader who was reported to have threatened to kill the clerk of the house  could not have acted in such a disgraceful manner unless he was under the influence of unknown substances and that he has a reputation of engaging in fist cuffs within the council premises even with outsiders at the least provocation and in full public glare.

It will be recalled that earlier in the year, Ogunyemi, in a petition by a civil society group to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission ICPC, was alleged to be drawing salaries concurrently from the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB and the Local Council Development Area where he served as a councilor for over four years before the bubble burst.

SUBEB, on the prompting of the ICPC appears to have discontinued the illicit payment and delisted his name on their payroll, whereas the anti-graft agency seems to have lost interest in the investigation as he is yet to be prosecuted nor cleared of the alleged offence which is punishable under the law.

When contacted, the management of the LCDA confirmed the incident and added that the Council, as well as the Local Government Service Commission are looking into the matter which will be referred to the appropriate agencies of government for necessary actions in order to avert future reoccurrences of brutalization of staff in the course of performing their official duties.
