Spending $2.5 Billion On Fourth Mainland Bridge Is Economic Wastage-LP
Gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos state, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has criticised Lagos state government over the $2.5 billion earmarked for the fourth mainland bridge.
He spoke on Arise News current affairs program, The Morning Show, monitored in Lagos on Tuesday.
Rhodes-Vivour maintains that spending such a whopping amount on fourth mainland bridge when there are other alternatives that will not cost so much amount to economic wastage.
He, however, promised to rehabilitate the ‘area boys’ who are constituting nuisance to the state in the guise of collecting tolls if elected.
He said his administration will allow the local governments to function effectively, and create vocational centres, unlike what’s going on in the state now.
He said despite the fact that a man called Daroucha started pumping water from Iju Waterworks since 1910, less than ten per cent of the population have pipe borne water.
“At the Debate, we spoke on the need for the water corporation in Lagos state to be unbundled and a waste management system that is depolitisized. Our government will be in the business of building platforms for individuals and businesses to engage in service delivery seamlessly.”
On the perennial flood in the state, Rhodes-Vivour said negative decisions have led to the flooding in the state, whereas government will claim its climate change.
“They keep dredging and sand filling the wet areas without Wetlands plan despite the fact that the act has been signed into law since 2017.” He said.
The Labour Party guber hopeful promised to make accountability and transparency the hallmark of his administration if elected, adding that the statement of account will be published quarterly and on “our website at the click of the button.”
