Delta Women Warn Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan To Leave Them Out Of Her ‘Media Stunt’ ….Describe Her Status In State As ‘Very Controversial’ …Say ‘We Have Enough Female Politicians That We’ve Not Appreciated’

Women from the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State, on Tuesday, dissociated themselves from a celebration of the tribunal victory of a Senatorial Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Kogi State, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The women, who addressed the press in Asaba, the state capital, said they would have not bothered to raise an eyebrow on the tribunal victory but for the senatorial candidate’s “media congratulatory stunt”, which focused on Delta women.

The Convener, Delta State Grassroots Women, Umukoro Oghenekevwe, who addressed the press on behalf of others, pointed out that the media stunt compelled them to set the records straight and publicly dissociate the good women of Delta from the purpoted celebration of someone who allegedly “has a very controversial status in Delta State.”

The women, who said they had nothing against female politicians from other geopolitical zones of the country and were in support of their success, however added that they “reject the unsolicited generalization of Delta women by one person who chose to begin her charity outside.”

The women said, “We have more than enough female politicians in Delta State that we haven’t appreciated enough and, therefore, crossing borders to other states to celebrate their own female politicians is abnormal.

“We are saying this in response to a publication that purportedly said that Delta State women celebrated a female politician who just won her election to the Senate in Court from the North Central state of Kogi State, Mrs. Natasha Akpoti.

“We have nothing against her, but we reject the unsolicited generalization of Delta State women by one person who chose to begin her charity outside by claiming that Delta State women celebrated someone whose political mandate is to the people of her constituency in her state.

“Even if she succeeds in winning the final processes to go the Senate, which is still ongoing, she will go there to represent her own people, not us.”

“As Delta State women resident in this state and relevant to its politics, we dissociate ourselves from the purported celebration of Natasha-Akpoti-Uduaghan who doesn’t represent our state and has a very controversial status here in Delta State,” they added.

Highlighting a controversy that raged in the recent past, the Convener stated, “Recently, a voice note of the father of our sister, Mrs. Alero Uduaghan, got leaked where the old man painfully recounted the terrible experiences that her daughter went through when her home was shattered allegedly by blackmail and in a very wicked manner.

“We would not have even bothered to raise an eyebrow on her tribunal victory but for her media congratulatory stunt which focused on Delta women. This compelled us to set the records straight and publicly dissociate the good women of Delta from the purpoted celebration of someone who allegedly scattered our sister’s home.”

“Dog may eat dog elsewhere, but not here in Delta State. We always stand by our own and we remain standing,” the women declared.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Press, my dear colleagues and our leaders here present.

We are gathered here today to promote the interests of Delta State women and to appreciate our female politicians and others who represent and promote the interests of Delta State as a whole.

This has made it imperative to dissociate ourselves as the real Delta State grassroots women who are politically active and relevant from the recent misreprentation whereby Delta State women were projected as celebrating a female politician from another state. Not only that, the person in question is not even from the South-South geopolitical zone but from the North.

DGWG is an active and expansive association of politically savvy women with the sole aim of supporting Delta State women in politics. We have a wide reach across the state in every Ward and Local Government Areas.

If not for the short notice we gave them, this hall cannot accommodate our numbers even if it’s only the exco members that were invited. But we have representatives all the way from all the 25 local government areas of the state.

Let me emphasize clearly, so as not to be taken out of context, that we have nothing whatsoever against female politicians from other geopolitical zones of the country because we are all Nigerians, anyways. But, as the saying goes, charity begins at home. We have more than enough female politicians in Delta State that we haven’t appreciated enough and, therefore, crossing borders to other states to celebrate their own female politicians is abnormal and a disservice to our own women.

We are saying this in response to a publication that purportedly said that Delta State women celebrated a female politician who just won her election to the Senate in Court from the North Central state of Kogi State, Mrs. Natasha Akpoti.

Like I said earlier, we have nothing against her, but we reject the unsolicited generalization of Delta State women by one person who chose to begin her charity outside by claiming that Delta State women celebrated someone whose political mandate is to the people of her constituency in her state.

Even if she succeeds in winning the final processes to go the Senate, which is still ongoing, she will go there to represent her own people, not us.

Here in Delta State, we have politicians, female and male, of noble character who have never been caught in scandals and atrocious allegations and with credible pedigrees that we can celebrate.

Delta State women will never abandon those ones and cross borders by several states to shop for outsiders to celebrate no matter the pecuniary temptation. When an individual wishes to undertake something that amounts to political jobbing, you have to do it alone and not drag others into it like in this case of associating the whole of Delta State women with what an individual did in the manner that the story was captioned.

How come we didn’t see Kogi State women jumping around in open jubilation after the judgment or even issuing a Press Release like one person did here far away in Delta State.

As Delta State women resident in this state and relevant to its politics, we dissociate ourselves from the purported celebration of Mrs Natasha Uduaghan who doesn’t represent our state and has a very controversial status here in Delta State.
