Group Calls For Arrest Of Sylva, Others Involved In Election Results Manipulation In Nembe And Brass Local Governments
The Centre for Credible Elections, a Civil society group, has strongly condemned the alleged manipulation of governorship election results in Nembe and Brass local government areas of Bayelsa State.
In a statement issued in Yenagoa on Sunday, and signed by Dr Gilead Opara, the group said “In light of these serious allegations, we call for the immediate arrest and investigation of the APC Governorship candidate, Mr. Timipre Sylva, and any other individuals found to be involved in these manipulative activities.
The group further said “the Centre for Credible Elections has received reports and evidence suggesting widespread irregularities, including voter suppression, ballot box tampering, and the submission of falsified results from various polling units in Nembe and Brass. Such actions not only undermine the democratic process but also erode the trust that citizens place in the electoral system.
“We urge law enforcement agencies to promptly arrest and thoroughly investigate Mr. Timipre Sylva and any other individuals implicated in the manipulation of election results. This is crucial to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”
“We also call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a thorough review of the election results from the affected areas and, where necessary, nullify results obtained through fraudulent means. It is imperative to ensure that the genuine will of the people prevails.”
The group said it remains committed to promoting credible and transparent democratic processes, as it stand in the firm belief that electoral malpractices must be met with swift and just actions to protect the democratic rights of the people.
