Japa:Group Canvasses For MOU Of Healthcare Workers Between Nigeria And UK
A UK-based Diaspora group, Nigerian Nurses Charitable Association UK (NNCAUK), has called for a structured Memorandum of Understanding on migration of health workers between the Governments of Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
This was one of the highlights of its 25th anniversary gala nightwherein Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) was the special guest of honour.
The Association, which is the largest gathering of Nurses and Midwivesin the UK, had as its theme:”Leading the Future Influencing Global Health”.
Speaking at the event , Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a statement issued by NIDCOM Spokesman, Abdur-Rahman Balogun commended the Nurses and Midwives for their charitable deeds and urged them to continue togive back to their motherland.
She expressed optimism that Nigerian healthcare practitioners in theDiaspora, working with their counterparts in Nigeria, can make Nigeria,a medical tourist destination, rather than the other way round.
She added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committedto improving healthcare facilities and practice in Nigeria, and calledfor more collaboration by establishing partnerships for knowledgeexchange, telemedicine initiatives and skills transfer programs.
The NIDCOM boss commended the association for being one of the mostprogressive and focused diaspora groups.
Earlier, the President of the Nigerian Nurses Charitable Association UK(NNCAUK), Wendy Olayiwola ( BEM) , said they will continue to contributetheir expertise through their collaborations with medical institutionsback in Nigeria, stressing the need to create more platforms fornetworking and communication to foster a collaborative environment forsharing insights and best Practices.
Also speaking at another event, the Thanksgiving celebration gatheringby the Yorubas in the UK, Hon. Dabiri-Erewa called on them to continueto project Nigeria positively and join hands with Nigerians at home tomake Nigeria better.
The Mayor of Southwark, Mayor Micheal Situ, commended Nigerians in theUK and pledged to continue to serve the community effectively andefficiently.
