$68 Million Fraud: Senate Threatens To Issue Bench Warrant Against NPA Boss, Bello Koko

The Senate Committee on Public Account has ordered the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority, Bello Koko to appear before it within 48 hours to explain its role in the alleged misappropriatin of its revenue as contained in a query by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Account, Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada, who gave the order, warned the NPA to comply with the directive or face necessary sanctions.

Wadada condemned the refusal of Nigeria Ports Authority to honour an earlier invitation of the committee to answer the query issued by the Office of Auditor General of the Federation in respect of the revenue that accrued to the agency.

He said; “NPA was supposed to appear before this committee so that we look at the query raised by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation.

“The NPA Managing Director sent a General Manager to appear before the committee which was not acceptable by the committee. Even the General Manager was absent at the committee sitting but later showed up, saying that he went for medication,” the committee chairman said.

Wadada insisted that the NPA must appear before the committee to answer the query issued by the Auditor -General of the federation since the NPA could not account for about sixty-eight million dollars.

The Senate committee Chairman promised that the committee will communicate to the management of NPA within 24hours, adding that if they failed to appear before the committee, the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly will use necessary legal instruments against the NPA management.

Wadada declared that no institutions is bigger than National Assembly just as no public office or any individual is above law.
