IGSO Garment Workshop: Emulate Class ’84, Alumni President Charges Other Students

The President of Independence Grammar school old student’s association, Mr Dele Edokpayi, has urged other old students to emulate the class ’84 set who donated a garment making workshop to the school.

Edokpayi, who spoke through his representative at the weekend in Ondo, said all hands must be on deck to ensure that the school attained its status in the educational institutions in Nigeria.

Edokpayi was represented by the former Chief Judge of Ondo State, William Akintoroye.

While urging others to emulate the class 84 for its good gesture towards the school, he said that the 84 set must not rest on their oars, adding that so much needed to be done in the school.

He added that what the class ’84 has done by donating the garment Workshop is to the glory of God and all the students irrespective of sets.

An elated school principal, Mr Omoniyi Aķinbadejo bursts into songs of praise when it was his turn to speak.

Commending the old students for the laudable project, Mr Aķinbadejo said his joy knew no bounds as the gesture would improve tremendously the enrolment of the school.

Also speaking, the vice principal administration, Mrs Ojewale Bamitale, said the garment making workshop was a dream come true.

She said: ” The thought came to be when our female students always sneaked out during afternoon lessons. When we asked them the reason for not attending, the majority of them said they are learning a trade after the school hours, which is tailoring. By divine arrangement, I visited St Loius secondary school, Ondo, for personal purposes, and I met a former colleague who is teaching the students’ garment making, and I decided to visit the workshop. I love what I saw that day and began to think how to replicate it at IGSO.

It was an atmosphere of conviviality and camaraderie amongst the class ’84 and other old students present.

Each of the students had stories to tell about each others; different teachers and even the story of the school bus.

They remembered with fond memories of what transpired and the pranks they played over forty years ago while at the school.

The senior girl of class ’84 , Caroline Adebayo , who was on video call with her colleagues from her base in United Kingdom, was excited about the programme.

She ensured that she spoke to virtually all the class ’84 in solidarity with the programme.

The compere, Mr Yinka Ijelu, who was a member of class 84, held the audience spellbound through his ribs, cracking jokes throughout the programme, while Alhaji Alade Ademola, Adewumi Fasehun, ensured that guests enjoyed every minute of the programme.

After the formal commissioning, the class ’84 took time to network with each other amidst winning and dining until the guests started leaving one after the other.

Other dignitaries at the programme include national secretary of old students association, Chief Roland Ogundipe, National Public Relations Officer, Ibukun Akintoye and National treasurer, Engr Odunayo Olasanoye who was an award recipient for his support to the class ’84.

Others were chairman parents’ teachers’ association of the school, Sup Evangelist Lawrence Kolawole and Ondo chapter chairman, Hon Akinrinmola, amongst others.
