Lagos Governorship: It’s Too Early To Talk About 2027- Hamzat

Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos State deputy governor, has said it’s too early to talk about the 2027 general elections, adding that he’s working with his principal, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

The deputy governor maintained that it would be an insult on those who elected them for a second term when they have barely spent one year to be talking about 2027 governorship.

Dr Hamzat spoke while answering questions on the development of Lagos State on Arise News programme, The Morning Show, on Tuesday.

Dr Hamzat who reeled out some of the roads infrastructure that the state is working on said the paucity of funds have reduced the pace they would have love to work.

He, however, said that the State is working on roads infrastructure in Abaranoje in Alimosho, Demurin Street in Ketu area and host of others across the state.

Dr Hamzat who also doubles as commissioner for works also explained that over 800,000 people have signed on to the health insurance as at last count.

On the food palliatives to Lagos residents, Dr Hamzat said feedback from the people have shown that they prefer the 25 per cent reduction to sharing of food which have not really gotten to those who need it.

On the legacy, Dr Hamzat said it will be on transportation, adding that they wanted to connect the state through road, waterways and rail.

“As at the last count four million people have signed on to the Cowry cards of transportation in Lagos State,” he said.

It would be recalled that Dr Hamzat was the favourite of former Governor Babatunde Fashola in 2015, but lost in the primary to former Governor Akin Ambode.

He also bought the gubernatorial nomination in 2019 before he was prevailed upon to run alongside Governor Sanwo-Olu as his running mate.
