Farewell Thee Waheed! By Stephen Ogundipe
It is with profound sadness but with total submission to the will of Almighty Allah that I, on behalf of all the good people of Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-1, extend my heartfelt condolences to the esteemed Ayilara family of Eniyanlonbinu Street, Oshodi, on the passing of their beloved son and shining star, CP Waheed Ayilara.
The unfortunate event occurred on Thursday, 28th August 2024.Late Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara was not only a cherished childhood friend but also a schoolmate.
We both had the privilege of attending the prestigious University of Ibadan, where he pursued a degree in Law. Alongside notable figures such as Muyiwa Olabimtan, Moruf Akinderu Fatai, and myself, Waheed brought pride to Oshodi during our time at the premier university.Waheed was a committed and dedicated officer of the Nigerian Police Force.
His career was marked by diligent service across various police formations, most notably the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti. He also served as the Acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos before his promotion to a substantive Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, where he was posted before this tragic incident.
His contributions to the fight against crime in Nigeria were significant, and he was a respected and leading voice in law enforcement.
His leadership qualities and advocacy for the development of police officers have left an indelible mark on the force. On a personal note, this loss is deeply painful.
We spoke just two days ago, and I prayed for his quick recovery, not knowing that it would be our last conversation.
Waheed was a friend who was always attentive and willing to go the extra mile to help others. But who are we to question the will of Almighty Allah?
I urge the family, friends, and all who knew him to take solace in the fact that Allah giveth and taketh.
We pray that God, in His infinite mercy, grants the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss. May He forgive Waheed’s sins, rest his soul, and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
E-Signed
